Co. Carlow
The Sunny South East
Blacknight’s head office and main datacentre is located in Carlow Town, just off the M9 motorway, at the meeting of counties Carlow, Laois and Kildare. In fact, technically our office is in Laois, but it’s all just a matter of a lunchtime stroll about this pleasant and bustling town.
Carlow is a town of 20,000 people, with high-speed fibre broadband offering speeds in excess of 100Mbps, and a wide range of amenities. Supermarkets and major retailers are well represented, along with an impressive selection of local shops, artisanal producers, craft brewers and distillers. There is a wide choice of childcare and schools, including Educate Together and a gaelscoil. The Institute of Technology caters for 7,000 students in degree and postgraduate education and research.
It’s an ideal location for sports clubs and outdoor activities, with the River Barrow offering unique opportunities and a link to Ireland’s navigable waterways via the Grand Canal. The river is the central feature of the award-winning Carlow Town Park, a beautiful 12-acre public amenity in the centre of town.
Restaurants cater to every taste and there is a vibrant nightlife. The VISUAL contemporary arts centre includes gallery and exhibition spaces and the 320-seat George Bernard Shaw Theatre. Carlow IMC has the largest cinema screen in Ireland, and the only one with Dolby Atmos sound.
Located in the heart of Ireland’s Ancient East, the historic cities of Kilkenny and Waterford are just minutes down the M9. The beautiful beaches of Wexford are only an hour away and the town is well served by bus and rail services.
